Anyone know if there is a time limit on recalls?

Recalls or campiagn bulletins are open until they are closed, the repair is made.At least thats what ive been told over the years.Ive got the seatbelt notice for my car.Its for 84-89.If you take the car to the dealer they will enter the VIN into the system and any recalls will show up.I got the notice years ago and never took it in.My question is what happens when the dealer no longer has the seatbelts?

Assuming that the campaign has never been completed on your car, GM is obligated to modify the car. They should supply the belt. If it is no longer available, they might get one from a junk yard and have it inspected to make sure it is ok before installing it. You can also complain to NHTSA that they aren't correcting the issue. NHTSA will report your concern to GM and they expect GM to tell them what has been done to resolve the issue. Sometimes, on an expensive repair GM may decide to negotiate with you to buy the car. At one time I think GM was putting a sticker with the campaign number on the radiator core support when a dealer did the repair....but you already know how well dealers follow directions.
If the part is no longer available from GM , you can buy the seat belts from Ecklers etc . have the belts installed yourself, take the receipts and proof of ownership to chevy dealer and they will cut you a check on the spot (supposed to). Each side must be less than $150 total I think.
