a cat got into my garage last night and left dirty paw prints all over my convertable top. whats the best way to clean dirt off a vert top? I dont want to stain it by rubbing on it.
Two products that I highly recommend.
1 Raggtop cleaner . Separate versions for vinyl or cloth
but it may not be as available in auto parts store. Detailing shops will carry it as will the online stores like www.properautocare.com .
2. More widely available at most auto parts stores is 303 convertible top cleaner
I have used both, I prefer Raggtop, but if it was my car I would want to get it off sooner rather than later.
Once clean finish up with the conditioner that both offer.

Now lets add a harder question, my new (to me) triple black 92 Vert has a like new top on it. It was either replaced or someone really took good care of it. The problem, two small dried spots of what looks to be tree sap (pitch).
Any ideas, or would it be best to leave it? It has dried light in color, I could even try to add a little color to it to darken it up.
Thanks in advance, Vinnie

Tree sap that is still fairly soft can be removed by dampening the sap with mineral spirits or even lighter fluid. Dampen a Q-tip or similar and apply to the stain. Once the sap begins to break down, wip away with a clean cloth. The entire top will have to be cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft nylon brush to remove the remaining traces of the sap and cleaner.
Use a good protectorant on the cloth to keep stains from appearing. I use 303 Top Protectorant on teh 92. It's a bit on the pricey side, but so far it works great. The hardtop is on right now so I can't show you what the tan top looks like. BTW, water beads up and rolls right off with the 303 stuff.
