85 vette heads
Hey guys when did GM start putting aluminum heads in the Vette I thought it was 86. I have a 85 and want thought the heads were steel but they seem to be aluminum when I put a magnet up to it the magnet won't stick if i put it anywhere else like the block or screws it does can anyone tell me from the vin or anything like that if this are has ture aluminum head 1G1YY0789F5117085 what are some of the benfits of these heads thanks if anyone can help

They started with the aluminum heads with the 86 verts. I'll bet someone replaced you iron heads with aluminum. Maybe you even got lucky and they did a port/polish on them too.

Aluminum '128 heads didnt start until late in the 86 model year. The aluminums that came from GM flowed alot better on the intake side and the '113 heads in '88-91 did even better.
Biggest difference is about 40lbs off the nose of the car.
You will have to get casting numbers off the heads to learn anything else.
