I just bought a 1989 coupe a month ago and was wondering about the upshift light. So far it has not come on. I'm wondering if it is just disabled or broken or maybe I have not put the car through whatever it is that makes it light up. What seems to activate it is not all that clear from what I've read. I do see the light upon startup. Thanks
Take it out for a drive at 55 mph or so with the shifter in D not OD. After a minute or so the light will come on. I dont remember the exact conditions required to make it come on. May need to be warmed up. I drove C4s for like 5 years before I made one come on.
FWIW ... On my '87, the upshift light comes on in every gear fairly quickly under light to moderate acceleration. If I back off the gas rather than upshifting, the light goes out.
Would a 95 also have this light? I don't recall ever seeing it but I'm usually always in OD and if I'm in 3rd it's 45mph or under...but a couple times I'm sure I have gone 50-55 in 3rd.

All C4s have them. Since manuals are not going to have a different insturment panel from an automatic.
It depends on the transmission and year weather or not the the light is functional.
