About "The Wave"

The C5 was comming in the other direction to me when I turned in front of it...I even slowed down in the middle of the intersection while turning so he/she could see me wave!
SHAME ON YOU!
I guess any sort of hand movement acknolegement is better than nothing.

I save those for the imports who pass by
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
But any wave is better than no wave at all!
Anyway, I've seen the wave from fellow C4 owners, and a C3 owner; good so far.
I was cruising around Bowling Green last week and my Corvette was looking like a million bucks. I spotted several C5's. Guess what, most didn't wave, (I waved first mind you).
And the one or two C6 guys I saw, forget it.
Oh well. My Corvette may be a 9 year old car to those guys
and not as cool as C5's or a C6, but hey, I don't care. It's mine and I looks great!

Let me sum it up, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just my take on this subject
Pardon me if this gets winded, and I'm not including all C5/C6 owners accross the board)Here goes:Basically, here we are a bunch of guys(and girls) who really love this car known as the Corvette. Well, like many of you,as like me, the Corvette was only a pipe dream, especially when my car was new. In 1992, my car was 44 thousand dollars! Now, we have some extra cash, and we do attain the car of our dreams, albeit alittle "old", but hey, its a Corvette, no matter how you slice it. We're now part of the group known as Corvette owners!Yessss! from a C1 to a C6, we're part of this! Isn't it great? Now you feel so good, you're drivin' down the road, and hey, here's one of my "brothers", well, its one of those C5's wow, but hey, its all good, we're brothers after all, members of the same community, we're "Vette" owners, damnit! I'm gonna wave, a little nod to the brotherhood! So what do you do, you wave! What was that, no wave back? Why that C5 drivin %$@#*&!!! You feel betrayed, and maybe a little embarrased for being so sincere....and so it goes......Now back to what I was saying earlier, a C4 'Vette owner , to me is generally not vain, likes the car for what it is, an awesome sports car, and someone who does not care if it isn't the newest rage!! And to be honest, its affordable!I'm still tickled pink at the idea that I actually own a Corvette(and it only cost 11 grand, and that I was fortunate enough that I even had 11 grand to "blow" on a toy!) Alot of people cant even afford to even do that! Anyway, the C4 is not a classic car(yet) like the older generations of Vettes where it appreciates, and is expensive . Its middle of the road. And its modern enough we're its still pretty much up to date, compared to older Vettes. And that being said, the C4 has a special following that I think represents most of the people in this country. 80-90% of the people in this country cannot afford to just go out and plop 50k on a brand new Vette, let alone 30k on a used C5.Kids have to go to school, mortgages have to be paid, food has to be on the table, so on and so forth. So most of the C4 people, to me, represent the most common demographics of this country. I think we're more of the "salt of the earth" type. Alot of us are blue collar, middle class working stiffs(myself included) that just want a nice car, even if it is a few years old, hell, its still a Vette! I feel we really, really appreciate our cars! And I feel we're more "hands on" than the newer Vette owners, and on the flip side, I feel alot of C5-6 owners live in another realm, aka "how the other half lives". I think they feel that C4 people are just some common Joe Blows who had a couple of extra G's to buy an old, so 10 mins ago, sloppy seconds Vette. To them I think we're wanna be's, and they don't acknowledge our wave, like we're "beneath them", and maybe even think the wave is corny. So we're waving in sincerity, and they're looking at us saying, haha, yeah, right, puh-leez! That's what is annoying. And I think some of them are frustrated , Ferrari wanna be owners. I usually give the benefit of the doubt, and these thoughts were in the back of my mind, but after seeing alot of posts about the newer car owners not waving back, I felt I should type it out, and see how others feel, and if they feel this way, too. But, with this being said, I would like to say that I do know some C5 owners personally, and they are cool as hell, and do like my car! And I do like C5's, I wish I had the money for one, but out of my league for now! Maybe in a few years from now, some C5 owner will be writing like this about those damn C6/C7 owners! LOL You might be in agreement, think I'm crazy, or otherwise, but this is how I feel sometimes, I might have it all wrong, but thats the way my mind sees it. Thats all, and like I said, I'm not knocking all C5/6 owners!
PS the C4 was around for 12 years, it put the Corvette on the map, technologically speaking, and it was a major breakthrough in 1984, and refined itself up to 1996. To me, the C4 is the "Bridge" between the old Vettes and the new ones, and are responsible for the C5s and C6's we see today. It stands out as a real trend setter, and I feel the most important of the generations as far as the evolution of the Corvette. It was the difference from the old and the new. It re-invented the Corvette, and started a new chapter in Corvette history! Also, personally speaking, it was the Corvette generation I kind of "grew up" with, well from 16 years old in 1984 to 28 yrs old in 1996, so I feel a special attachment to the C4 as well!! Ok enough said.....

I think i'll file that statement under "DUH"

I dont think all of them are bad...ive had a couple of waves from C5's in Texas, but never here in Kentucky - The birthplace of the damn thing!
Hey coltcarbine, I'll drive down to Bowling Green to wave at ya!
) And sometimes I don't get a wave back, but I figure the other driver may be caught up in something else and not see me. It's fun, anyway, and I'll continue to do it. I even wave at Harleys, and drivers always wave or nod.

Maybe I need to get one of those stickers that says "I rather be driving my Vette"
