last summer me and my buddy stopped at a wawa on the way from sleazeside to the titty bar..........we come out with our snacks and sodas and he sits on the fender/hood.........i dont think he ever heard me scream louder in my life........luckily no damage resulted
Either you weigh a heck of a lot, i.e. too big to fit into a vette, or there was previous damage. Maybe the previous damage didn't go all the way through and you finished it off.
I lean on mine all the time and had no problem. Beside the shopping cart made a crack there by some idiot . The cart had to be pushed very hard and rolling down on an incline to made the crack on my IMO.

I lean on mine all the time, and weigh upwards of 250. Believe me, you didn't do that by leaning on it. That crack had already started, probably internally, and you just finished the job. Either way, it sucks. Looks like a pretty car!
Trust me I have had this vette for almost 4 years, I know every mm of it. I heard the noise when I leaned back against it. I sort of flopped backwards not just gently leaning. The only thing holding it intact is the paint, you can see it flex when I press on it.
This fracture was not there. I did this leaning against it.
Are you the original owner? If not, it may have had that rear quarter replaced with an inferior aftermarket panel. That said, I have to check to see if mine is as fragile in that spot as you say. I'm sure when you fix it it will be better than new. Good luck.
Yeah I've read through info in the service manual and found lots of good info on SMC repairing from net searches. Came across some interesting reading too about semi-rigid materials. I'm going to pick up the materials at the local paint supplier 3M distributor. It will take an over size patch and some special adhesives, then a finish coat of a special filler material. It only cracked the paint on the edge I think if I can get it taken care of in the next few days it should be fixable.
Seriously I've cleaned with the wheel off several times in there and wipe the under side lip every time I wash/dry it. I would have noticed any previous damage. No this is strictly stock. I think it was just the right force in the right place at the wrong time.
Boy, that's Charlie Brown luck for sure...Kind of like loosing it, chucking a socket on the ground, only to have it bounce back and chip the paint... Hope the damage isn't too $$ bad
Sounds like just an unfortunate freakish cracking incident. My best guess would be that for whatever reason it had already been somewhat weak, then you happened to put right pressure at just the right point to make it crack.

Great Idea! Perfect opportunity for a survey. Everyone, go out to your garage, do a butt plant on your fender, report back. Cracked [the fender smart azz] or not cracked. Will do a tech article for the forum.
If you wash your car / wheels / suspension with cleaners like Deep
Purple / or other strong degreasers it will make all your fiberglass brittle and weak, it will also cause your leaf spring to crack in two just by sitting still...maybe if you have used thses types of cleaners that might explain the weak fiberglass / urethane, never use anything (my recomendation is ONLY simple green - opinion may vary) on your car.
I'm with you Simple Green only. Actually while talking to my daughter on the fone, I was on the garage and lean against the wheel lip on the other side. It flexes a lot more than I'd prefer and with a little more force I can see how it happened.
My recommendations, just don't let anyone lean on those rear fender lip flairs.
regardless, i am going to make an effort to not do it... i think we just do it without thinking...reflex action. just don't want to take any chances... thanks for the scoop.
