About the time I bought my Corvette this topic was discussed. I can't remember who it was that had bought a repair kit from one of the Corvette suppliers, anyway he described the material as one of those venetian blind plastic louvers. I had some of that type of material and made a set for myself. Back at Christmas time a "Pay it Forward " thread was going and I gave several of the "kits" away. If you are interested I think I still have a little of the material left I could cut you out a couple of pieces and send them to you. Instructions included. PM me if you are interested.

Yup, it was Tobijohn.

I just cut a several inch mini-blind section and slid it in there and it has worked fine.

I had the same problem with mine and I decided to just get new ones. I believe I got them (the one w/ lights) from Corvette Central. $150 a pair

A 3 or 4 inch piece out of a metal coat hanger also works. Costs nothing and takes under 30 seconds to do.
