Default 1990 Auto

My car is a 1990 auto with 3.07s. Here's a question. What kind of overdrive is that, electronic or vaccuum.

Can this trans be left in OD while driving around town without causing a problem? Or is it reccomended to keep it in drive unless on the highway?

Shouldnt hurt anything to leave it in OD most of the time.

Your trans is a 700r4, has a kickdown cable operated passing gear, and electronic controlled lockup on the torque converter.

700r4s get a bad rap but I like em pretty good.

Your 700R/4 auto tranny (A4) up/down shifting is controlled internally by the transmission, this includes the OD function. So, in effect, the OD is just another gear within the A4.

Indeed it is ok to leave the shifter in OD position around town or to put it in D position, as you prefer. Sometimes in slow traffic around 40mph or so I manually down shift to D to avoid the "hunting" between gears that can occur.
