I hate this f@##$%^&$%& car. I tried to put the rear hatch weatherstrip in today, and the hatch won't close now......The carpet I ordered from ACC is a lousy fit, so that project is on hold. This sucks..........
Getting ready to do my weatherstrips too, except I am having Ultimate Seal (the company the dealership uses) do mine. I just dont have the patients, lol.
i have just decided that after reading so many ugly threads about new weatherstripping, i will never do it... i will let what i have on the car until it wears down. then i will buy a new car.... this just sounds like an ugly job, and there seems to be so many issues with the quality of the product and where it is bought. good luck to all who tackle this job.
As far as hatch weatherstrip goes, my buddy bought a noname(or shopuld I say we don't know the name) for $70. It fit great, be sure to let it sit in the sun to get it more pliable, that makes it easier to work with.
Of course the hatch will be harder to close. We were able to close his hatch and the new weatherstrip conformed and settled and now he loves it.
As for the carpet, I won't go with any other but what I can get from TLD(which should be the original GM carpet). I've heard good about ACC and Wilcox.
Are you 100% sure you ordered the correct carpet? DO you have any aftermarket sound deadener installed? Things like that can make a difference.
thanks for letting me rant. Yes, it is still pretty cool here (47) to try the weather strip job. I'm sure a little time in the sun under the glass and she will be pliable. As for the carpet........It's the correct one, it's just doesn't seem to lay flat. I think the same solution (a little time under the glass in the sun) will do the trick. I read somewhere that someone used a heat gun on the carpet, but I'm afraid I'll toast it!!!!!!
i'm in week 3 of my weatherstripping. i never plan on doing this again. the hardest part is removing the old weatherstrip from the retainers around the windshield and halo. i bent up the reveal molding and retainer on a side of the windshield accidentally. what i have been using is some stuff called un-du, it kinda softens the glue. for putting it back into the channels i am using a cheap plastic putty knife and this works it into the channel well. so far i have done the top side weatherstrip, hatch, doors, door sweeps and halo part. the worst part is that i don't have a garage and it has been raining alot since i started.
my advice to all who are doing this job...be patient and take your time.
I know my hatch weatherstripping is some fat $hit but I put on about 5-10 lbs of extra muscle just getting used to closing it. Now it is no problem. I feel a lot stronger now!! Hopefully I won't break the tempered glass anytime soon.....
