After just over four weeks I got my Interstate Battery back from Dallas. Brought it home hooked it up, started the car and it worked fine for just over five minutes when it petered out. Gave up, went to Sears Die Hard Gold, hooked it up and my problems seem to be solved. Checked it this morning and it is holding a charge with no problem.
I'm not sure that the difference quality of the battery...just Interstate's lack of customer service.
Jim,
I know the problems that you have been through on this one.
I would have one more go at Interstate and ask for a full refund...
Their battery has caused you four weeks of unecessary grief.
From: Stafford, Virginia Kittah, Kittah, Kittah...
Very disappointing, I know I won't buy another one in the future based on your experience... Interstate used to be my second choice, now they're not even an option anymore...
I'd make sure when you contact the company again to tell them of the final failure, make sure you let them know that your experience has been passed on to the internet Corvette community... What are we now, 40K+ strong???
Ya know I had a similar problem with my newly installed Interstate Battery. The first few days....or maybe even before a good week or two of driving, the battery would trickle down and not start my Vette. I found that if I left the hood open for like ten minutes...or the doors for that matter...the battery would die. I was this close to going out and buying a Die Hard as well.
Well after a few more weeks of driving...I found the problem no longer exists. Ive had the hood opened up on more than a few occasions for over 15 minutes and she starts right up now. So now I'm thinking maybe it takes a new Battery that has been sitting around uncharged on a shelf a while to build up to its full charging/load
capacity. Im not an electrical expert....just sounds like a good reason to me. Am I nuts???

They won. I just don't have time to screw with them anymore.
No they didn't. You, nor I, nor the majority of members on this forum will ever buy another Interstate battery. And we will all pass the word how their customer service is abominable. So who really won? Surely not them! Don't think of it that they won. They'll get theirs in the end.
My last two batteries have been interstate, Im going with Optima now after reading this thread. I also have problems of having the battery die if I leave the doors or hood open for 10 or 15 minutes.
I forgot to mention I also had trouble getting a new interstate battery replaced after it died in less than 2 years. I went to the shop I bought it from and the guy their acted like he didnt know how to get it replaced for free. I ended up buying a new interstate battery which I have now (I know I should have persisted with the warranty issue). This is the last interstate I'm ever buying.
Jim,
Sorry to hear of all the problems. I for one used to like Interstate batteries. After your problems, I will no longer consider them when it comes time to replace mine. Thanks for the heads up.
Brad
Never had an interstate battery, sounds like I never will. I have an AC Delco battery in the car now, I can leave the doors, hood open for an hour and not have a problem. Of course after 15 min the interior lights go off on their own anyways.

Sorry to inform you, but Interstate owns Optima as well... Try a NAPA Orbital battery if you're dead set against Interstate/Optima.

Bingo, a battery should be fully charged before being put into service.
Self-life losses 50% from sitting. Never install a new battery witout fully charging it.
I use whatever is handy, Interstate is handy for me so I
