We Finally had a nice enough day that I was able to go out driving with the roof of my 95 coupe for the first time. Around 25-35 MPH i was getting a violent vibration throughout the whole car is this normal or is something wrong with my car. With the roof on it is fine.
Thankls for any help?
Tony
It is not unusual to get some additional cowl shake transmitted through the steering wheel and some vibration due to wind buffeting, however it shouldn't be "violent." You might want to try rolling up or down the windows at that speed. If there is a substantial change, it is most likely more aerodynamically induced rather than structural.

Mine does somethign similar - but only with the windows up. if I crack the windows down a few inches on both sides it allows for air circulation and eliminates the buffeting. I think it's just one of the characteristics of our Coupes. Somehting to do with stability and air flow with the top off.
I use a hatch vent kit to raise the hatch about an inch and that lets air flow through and really reduces the buffeting from the wind and resultant shaking. The hatch vents are available from Midamerica and Eklers.
Sounds silly maybe but mine was a lot more noticable when I had the KYB shocks on, when I replaced them a few months back with Bilsteins, it stablized it a lot. It was even worst shake with the worn out Monroe's that were on there when I got the Vette. The KYB's were about 14 months old.
I don't think I would use the word 'violent' to describe the shake from the instability. Matter of fact I would more so describe it as a minor difference.
I think I would start looking at suspension you may have some worn parts that just aren't as stiff as they should be. Just a thought.
Curious, what's the fastest you've been with the top out. I breached the triple's Sunday with the top out test driving after installing the Corsa's. I'm burning up fuel left and right trying to hear that roar. Hope this Corssa newness wears off soon.

Vents from the Corvette Gadget Man are only $23 postage paid. A much better deal!!!
Also, isn't it against some law to drive a Corvette (or any car for that matter) with the Targa roof off, or the convertible top down, and still have the windows rolled up?? Well, it should be!

How long was the car sitting before you took it out. Just a guess, but it could be that the tires flat spotted and you were felling the vibration of the out-of-round tires, or out-of-balence tires because the air pressure dropped while sitting. Did it get any better as you drove for awhile, or did you go right back to the garage after feeling the vibration?
I use a combination of the hatch vent and convertible wind deflectors (the ones that attache to the mirrors). Still get a little buffeting but not bad.

www.corvettegadgetman.com - possibly the best money I've spent on the the Vette so far... I use my vent whenever possible, top on or off! I highly recommend his product.
As for the cowl shake, it's COMPLETELY NORMAL. You are just witnessing firsthand that the targa top is an important structural member of the car. The reason Pionexxx mentioned he didn't have this problem with a vert is because they come pre-fitted with an "X-brace" from the factory to make up for the lack of rigidity provided by the greenhouse.
Dave Cooper at R-D Racing has X-braces available for your coupe, if that's something you're interested in correcting.

I disagree with that, you should not have a violent vibration problem like he is describing at 25-35 MPH with the targa top off. He has other problems, like wheel balance, shocks or tire problems. Turbolance yes, but violent vibration?

Totally agree. That's want I was trying to say earlier on in this thread but everybody just ignored what I said.
