The 700 and 4l60 are basically the same trans with a name change. From 82 and up there were improvements made year after year. The 4l60E is an electronic version of the 4l60. It has no tv valve and no governor. Much of the mechanical internals are the same as the non electronic model. Around 2000 the 4l65 came out. This is a higher torque rated unit that is based on thew 4l60e. Its mechanical internals will also retrofit into the 700r4.
