I replaced the optispark in my 1995 9-C-1 Caprice cop car (LT1) last yr. Cheapest place (last yr) was Summit....abt 300 bucks.....It is fairly straight forward...... Just a lot of little jobs ( removing air induction, belt, hoses, plug wires, water pump......) took me and my son about 4 hrs, and I am painfully slow....Just be careful to keep the new one dry around the water hoses as water kills them.....Also, if you get the new type, there is an additional line (vacuum I think) to keep its innerds dry....so you'll have to rig it a bit.
If memory serves me, I think the newer ones are significantly cheaper so there's another reason to upgrade....However, even the new ones suck as they are so likely to crap out.....but whatcha gonna do?
Good luck...repost if you have any problems, and I'll call or e-mail you.
MSD caps are on back order everywhere appearently they are having problems. I tried to order one from Jegs and they sent me an email saying delivery expected 6/12/05. Alot of people pre ordered them I am getting mine from Byungspeed for $150 shipped and he is going the extra mile to move me up and delay one of his friends cap. He says they will be shipping in the next week or 2. We will see.MSD said they were for sale in January.
How's the water pump? You might want to think about changing that as well "while you're at it".
Yes replace the water pump too. But you can't just put in a new style (95-96) you would have to change the timing cover and the pin on the end of the cam to do so.

Dynotech Engineering makes a first class replacement. It has a well sealed billet aluminum housing and is vented like the 95-96 models. It is a bit pricey at $600 but it is truly a case of you get what you pay for. I have one on my 94 coupe and am about to install one on my 93 vert. I would agree with the previous post....replace the water pump while you are in that deep.

Excuse me but I couldn't help but ask which water pump is recommended and where to get it. I also have a LTI needing an Opti Spark, according to the codes.
Thanks! Given a choice I would like a GM WP but for $130, NAPA sounds pretty good. Now, if I could only get a MSD Opti there, I could do a one stop shop!
Go to "Corvette Fever" web site and look under "tech articles" on how to up grade your '93 Opti to work like the '95-'96 design. It would be a good idea to replace the water pump at this time. Where to buy one is up to you, rebuilt or new? I'm working on locating a source for parts to rebuild thes LT1 pumps. I have found a source for the seals and I'm close to finding the bearin & shaft source.
Quit replacing Opticraps! Go to www.optispark.com and you will find the new Delteq ignition. Never have to replace the optispark again. While there put a Mezzaire electric water pump on the car. I love mine!

It cost less than Chevy charges to replace the opti and....YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF! I am NO mechanic. The guys at Delteq do great support on phone as well.
