Default LT-1 question

I have a 1995 9-C-1 Caprice cop car...(Great car--fun as Hell) Does any LT-1 Xpert out there know why this car with the "vette engine" is only listed at 260hp as opposed to 300 like the vettes....the only obvious difference is iron heads...... Thanks for your help!

Iron heads, exhaust, and I believe the cam had different specs. This doesn't list the cam for the police version any different than the others, so I'm not sure about that:

More restrictive intake set up, I think 2 bolt mains also 9 ( wouldn't affect the HP rating though)

The compression is close to 10:1 but I'm not sure of the actual number, the cam is ground for stump pulling torque to get that land barge moving. The heads do not flow as well to help contribute to the torque curve of the motor. The intake is matched to the head flow... and the exhaust does not flow as well either. I know that motor in an RX7 will hang right next to my LT4... tough mill

Actually the Iron heads slightly outflow the aluminum LT1 heads, but they hold a lot more heat so they had to drop the compression to keeping preignition (knock) down. They are not popular for performance because of the heat retention, the weight penalty, and the fact cast iron is a major PITA to port.

The cam is a tad milder, which, along with a more restrictive intake is where the HP differences come from.

The Impala motors were a tad underrated from the factory. They will dyno 220 to the wheels, which calculates out to almost 270 net crank HP.
