I don't think there's any other option. You could just paint portions, but most likely it won't look too good. Unless you know someone who you can trust to blend into the rest of the paint really really well.
You could try polishing with clay to remove the small scratches, it they are small enough. If they are right through the paint and clear coat, this will not help you. It will not do anything for the stone chips either.
Someone who knows more about wet sanding than I do can probably tell you what to use, not much to lose if you are going to repaint anyway. My experience is that if you are going to do the hood, you will also need to do the bumper, then the lower front fender...connected to the doors...connected...........
If you have insurance, it may just pay for it!!!!
Duplicolor Color match followed by a Langka or Mother's product ( sorry I can't remember the exact names) used to smooth off the excess paint that is applied with either the pen end or the brush end of the duplicolor tube.
Sorry, Iwas interupted and sent my reply too quickly. The previous reply dealt with chips in the color coat.
Are the scratches jsut in the clear coat?
If thet are a Porter cable random orbialt polisher and the appropriate polish may take them out. I prefer Mezerna polishes, but there are others that will also do the job if you are dealing with minor scratches in the clearcoat. Clay bar will not remove scratches.
