That was the comment I overheard from a local dealership mechanic. I was getting my car inspected when some young punk flunky said that a Corvette is just another car, nothing special. I think someone was telling him what a nice Vette I had and for some reason he made that comment and it pissed me off. It's not like this dealership get more than a handful of Vettes in to service, as I live in an extremely remote area where I go months without seeing another Vette. I can't understand why he would say that and I don't know why it bothers me. Time to look for an new inspection place for next year's visit.
I wouldn't take it somewhere else just because some idiot kid said something stupid out of complete jellousy. The other guy complimented it so just leave it at that. If they do good work, I wouldn't worry about it IMO.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak...
I think I would let it go also. You might say the same thing at a Honda dealership. No big deal. Good service is a good thing don't loose it over a comment.

- if you are really offended by it you might let the GM know about it - but if your happy with the quality of the work in general - why switch to an unknown?

The kid hardly said anything insulting. Laugh it off.
Just because we think the Corvette is the ultimate car doesn't mean the world agrees with us.
Come on back to the CF and we can all comiserate....
I know I made a mountain out of a mole hill and I only take it there for my yearly inspections, but it was just the way he said it that got to me. I don't consider a Corvette "just another car" anymore than I consider the USA "just another country". Well, maybe that's a little over the top, but you get my point. I guess I have to face the fact that some people don't see Corvette as an American icon like I do.
i agree, it is just another car...they made so many Corvettes that they are hardly rare...they are a very good sports car for the money, but that does not change the fact that it looks better and performs better than most cars on the road...if you had a collectable one like a ZR1 or a GS then it would be different, but IMO the average C4 is just another car...

Come on, these kind of things just shouldn't bother you to this degree. How many other posts remark about everyone having their own opinion. I'm quite sure you get a helluva lot more positive nods and comments than negatives, but you have to take them all in stride. There is no accounting for anyone's taste and you certainly don't want everyone to have single focus. Lighten up, and remember, it really is a Chevrolet, albeit a nice one and one in a million or so, but keep things in perspective.
BTW, why does that person have to be a "young punk flunky"?
I wasn't there, but maybe you are taking that comment out of context? Did you hear any other comments before that one? Perhaps one young mechanic said to the other mechanic, "I would hate to work on that corvette." And the other mechanic said, "It's not bad. It's just another car." Maybe something like this was said. I am just speculating.
I don't agree that it is "just another car". Yes it has a motor, tires, a windshield, a transmission, etc, runs on gas, needs oil just like any other car, but the corvette is more than just another car. It unites people and ignites fellowship. The vette gives us something to feel good about. It's something to talk and tell stories about to others. The vette shows off great engineering, a refined body (art) style, and awesome performance.

B.
No it wasn't in that context. It was that "Corvettes are nothing special, just another car. " I agree with alot of what's been said here about moving on and forgetting it, but I do not agree that a Corvette is just another car.
You shoulda just "eye gouged" him. You woulda felt better and not been so frustrated that you had to write about it. But then, you mighta been writing the post from jail and would have shown the same ignorance he did. You did the right thing, ignored him and drove off

Well said. As for the puny snotty nosed brat who works at the dealership, all you have to remember is that most of them were bred on foreign cars. They are at that age where the parents began this trend, due to purposefully bad Amercian engineering and production methods during the late 70's/80/90's.
Bottom line, unfortunately many of the kids just haven't been exposed to real American V8 muscle So they just pop off with an attitude.
