Here goes. I need help deciding if I should put a tint on my 96 Vette. I am having a difficult time making a decision. I have a 1996 vette that has black leather. This car is my "daily" driver (really is). I live in the south and the inside of this car can get really hot. I would like to tint the windows to reduce the suns heat and extend the life of the original interior (no cracks, fading, tears, etc). My question is does any one have any pics of window tinting on the C4? The state law inTennessee is %35. I can't visualize what that would look like on a 96 coupe. I would like to see some pictures and know the % of tint before making my decision. Please post some pics or PM them to me. Thanks in advance for any advice or pics that can be provided.
We use the darkest allowed, 33%. I think the car looks great with that dark tint. Keeps it a lot more comfortable inside. At night, I never use the rear mirror night setting. The headlights behind are filtered enough to not be bothersome.
One big reason the tint can't be darker is because motorcyclists want to be able to see car driver's faces and which direction they might be looking. Actually, it's pretty hard to see that at a tint level of 33%
Here's some pics of mine in Florida right before I bought it. I see in your avatar yours is torch also. This should give you some idea of how it will look. I think this percentage is "opaque" it's all coming off. I can't see crap out of it at night.

Huh?? You need to explain that comment for me. What does a motorcyclist have to do with being able to see a driver's face?, hence affecting how dark the tint can be?

Uhh...no. Its so if a cop pulls you over, he/she can see that you are not armed and going to shoot them. It's for the officer's safety, not so some guy on bike can see you're face.

Just had my '87 tinted yesterday. In MO side tint legal is 35% so that's what I went with. Rear can be as dark as you want it but I was concerned about being able to see through hatch at night, so I went with 20%. It looks good and I have no night problem. Next darkest shade is 5% which would have rendered me blind. Color is grey (smoke).
For a couple of days after tinting, you may have a few small spots, especially around defrost grid lines. After 3-4 days, moisture will evaporate but adhesive between film and glass remains tacky and installer will roll out any remainig air spots.
Thanks for the info and the headsup on what to expect!!

Thanks for these great pictures!! That is neat to see what my torch red would look like with tinted windows. I do like the look but I might have to go with something that is not quite as dark. Don't want to cause problems when driving at night. What % is your tinit?

In South Florida, 90% of cars are tinted because of the extreme heat and sun. I have a white 1996 and the tint looks great and also keeps the interior much cooler. Its not to expensive and if you don't like it, remove it.

No just motorcyclist, but any driver.
When someone is coming up to an intersection, driveway, etc, I like to check and see that the driver is looking my way. If he's not, I'll slow down because I am assuming he may pull out without looking. When someone tints their side windows, I cannot see where they are looking. For that reason, I took the tinting off my car when I bought it. Same reason I dont like black out on lights, anything that makes my car more vulnerable to being hit, I dont like.
That is the main reason tinting is illegal in some areas. The cops being able to see inside a vehicle is also a factor, but not the primary one.

That's the way it was told to me........by the POLICE. But what do they know anyway.
OK, regardless of whether the primary reason is the police ID'ing you or the other drivers (including motorcyclists) seeing you, it's still a safety issue in my mind. And as I still claim, the darkest 'legal' tint is going to make it a lot harder to allow either of the above.
That being said, I put the on darkest 'legal' tint.....and I ride a motorcycle, too. Well, it's 'legal'...
I wish that was good everywhere, state law here in MI. states any side window tinting is impairment to vision.......doesnt stop some people though and if a cop chooses to be upholding to the letter of the law he can write the ticket, which then forces the removal of side window tint (rear can be limoed). still doing mine anyway w/ low percent all around less windshield
