And for those who are saying well the car is only worth $6k. So f-ing what? So you should only paint a car if it is worth x% more than the cost of the paint job? Wtf?

this guy wants a decent looking clean car, then it's the right choice. The car will be worth more if the paint job is done right. A clean car is always worth more and looks better than one with a low quality (crap) paint job, Earl or Maaco. You get what you pay for when you paint a car. People still go into shock when they hear the prices of what it costs to paint a car, it amazes me.

Bought a 93 with excellent paint and interior with up-grades. Guy that bought the 86 painted it and has more in the car than its worth.
I bought a 85 with a $3,500 paint job and a rebuilt engine and trans for $5,500.

I SOLD IT. Ya get what ya pay for.
Well went to Earl's yesterday and got an estimate. First let me describe the condition of my paint. The hood has about 30-40 small road chips,By the spoilers on both sides are quarter size scratches,My divers door has on 3in scratch on it and the pass door has some kind of blister on the bottom panel someone has already done a partial job on the drivers upperside( I can tell from the fish eyes and dirt in the paint). As some of you know I work at a GM plant and did work in paint at one time and know the process we use. I actually was responsible for thr robots that paint the car base and clear coats as well as repair robots. Point is I know what a paint job by GM is supposed to look like.
Earl wants $1860 to make my car look as "Factory" including replacing my outer window sweeps for $100 a door.I told them did they realize this car was going to be shown at some point and would be a rolling ad for thier paint job? The answer was yes and they added wet sanding and buffing to the cost of prep and finish with 4 layers of paint and 1 clear coat.
I think I am going to do it and report back in a future post on the results as with the paint and mechanical I will have about 11K in my car and am not going to put a penny more than that in her.
This includes a satisfaction guarantee and a 6 yr paint warranty.
