Default 94 Wheels Get Hot

On the 1994 original wheels that look like huricane bands, is it normal for the wheels to get hot after driving under normal conditions for a few miles?

The wheels are hot to the touch. Not hot enough to blister or anything like that, but I can leave my hand on the wheel with some discomfort. I noticed this after there was smell of hot metal around the wheel area.

They are called, at least on here, sawblades.

Yeah they will heat up. Brake heat is transferred quickly to them.

Sawblades, that's a more accurate description of the wheels. Sounds like hot wheels is normal. Good, one less thing I have to address. Thanks.

Your 93 looks just like my 94. Same wheels and exterior color, except yours looks much better and mine has black interior. How did you get your lights so bright?

Hmmm, your profile info says beige. Which lights are you talking about? You mean the fog lamps?

Let's see it takes lots and lots of Zaino, clay bar, and more money than I want to acknowledge, replacing parts. At one point it almost smelled new inside for a few days in a two week period I replaced all the interior trim and the transparent roof with new weather striping as well. It needs to go to the body shop to have a boo-boo on the nose fixed (not me previous owner) and then new seat covers. I kind of have the philosophy that ever new part just adds more useful life out of her and keeps it looking new.

Fixed the profile, it says black now. The fog lamps look awesome. There's another thread talking about the running lights. It looks like you've got them set up just right.

Zaino and clay bar are new to me. After scanning the Internet, it looks like I'll be needing some of that. The paint on the hood has some black that should not be there. I'll try the clay bar to see if that fixes the problem. I'm going to try fixing the flaws a bit at a time also.

Yeah putting sufficient info about your Vette also helps the others when you need assistance or advice. There are so many variations in C4's, people will look to the profile determine your particular model info if its not in the post.

I believe there is a Zaino distributor in the Dallas area, a quick inquiry post on Car Care will fetch them. Or you can order from Ecklers or direct from Zainobros.com. Direct you will save a few bucks.

I had never heard of clay bar until I got the vette and I now know the secret to an optically perfect finish. It does a fantastic job and prepping the surface for the polish. I had some overspray on mine and it took it right off.

Yeah mine has been an on-going project over the last four years. Plus she's my daily driver so I'm proactive on a lot of items getting them replaced prior to their lifecycle.

Like to see some pics when you get them.

According to my 88 and 95 (and my 85 before it was sold) that my wheels never got that hot. You said after a few miles of normal driving? Maybe a bad bearing or brake pads not retracting. I would jack the car up and feel for any sticking.
My brakes would only get that hot after a long down grade or many fast stops - not after a few miles of normal driving.

What's a good way to check for sticking?
