The top of my wheel is finally biting the dust.. I would like to recover it.. Mid amaerica sells reconditioned wheels for 400.00.. but I was wonderinf if there was another alternative that comes reocmmended before i shell out the loot.. has anyone had any success with afternmarket wheel covers?
I would not recommend wheelskins if you have the air bag wheel. The cover would be great if it weren't for the wide spokes, but because the spokes are so wide the cover buckles at that area and there is no way to sinch it down with the thread. I've seen them on C5's and they look good (smaller spokes) but on the C4 they just look too sloppy in my opinion.

i have this set on my 86 in a silver/black setup, looks snazzy, and took all of a half an hour to install (mostly cause you're stringing it in yourself.. easy afternoon job).

I had some bulges in my wheelskin for the 87 but used 3M trim glue and taped it down overnight. Now fits good. My only complaint is that it makes the wheel even thicker than it was already. I would buy the rebuilt instead as it is the proper way to go. Check Ebay though as someone on there is selling rebuilt C4 steering wheels for less than the big Corvette catalogs.
Edit: I'm at work (slow night). One of the nurses walked by and looked at this post. She said: "You have bulges in your wheelskin?" I tried to explain but it just made it sound worse. :o
I have one on my '94. I took my time installing it (it took a couple of hours) and was able to get it to lay flat over the wide spokes. That was almost 3 years ago and it still looks great.
When I got my '85 the steering wheel looked like the previous owner had chewed on it so I got a re-wrapped one right away. Then I was at Wally World and saw a wrap that had the word Chevrolet on it with a bowtie emblem so I thought I'd give it a try to protect my new wheel. It took about a minute to install and looks great IMHO.

[url]www.momo.com or Grant Steering Wheels. The stock wheel is ugly no matter what you do to it.

I purchased a really clean "used" steering wheel from a "corvette only" salvage yard and parts shop about 2 years ago... which reminds me, I forgot to give them my old one as a core.
