I will get my 90 ZR-1 from private owner on the 19th. It has 14,477 miles on the odo. Original owner, ordered new, all docs, black on black, glass roof only.
My neighbor and I just brought back a 90 ZR-1 last weekend, red on saddle, with 844 miles on it, not titled, MSO only. Only problem is the Bose and headlight bearings on the gear, which we fixed in 2 hours, and windshield delaminating.
The 14K mile Z is immaculate, and the 844 mile Z is the same, plastic still on the door sills.
They are out there, you just have to look for them.

The windshield is gona be a tough one for a ZR1 from what I hear
I would go with the 90, not only for the mileage but the early LT5 motors were loose enough that you can tune them for as much or more power than the 405HP motor. Setting the correct cam timing is another way to increase power. I have a friend with a 90 and we have seen dyno numbers of 365HP at the rear wheels.
The only thing done to his car is a Borla exhaust and swapped the center resonator for an X-pipe. We also checked for the proper mounting of the vacuum motors that operate the secondary butterflies and they were installed upside down which was a common problem with lots of the early motors. That incorrect installation would not allow the butterflies to open all the way and costs power.
The later cars are not really rare as such; it's just that there were limited number of motors available and GM decided to limit the annual production to 448 cars in 93-95. Only 503 were made in 1992.
You can find lots of information on the ZR-1 and the LT5 motor over on the ZR-1 Net www.zr1net.com
there's a red 91 zr1 nearby with only 7500 miles... they want... i think it was something like $22k for it. Damn thing looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor (even the underbody was spotless).
I just don't get some people's fascination with spending that kind of money on a car and not enjoying it...
Can you please advise where the red 91 ZR-1 is with 7500 miles ? I will send e mail to your address.
Thanks,
Boatman

The way I was told is that they stopped and counted the number of LT5's they had, subtracted a few for warranty replacement and then divided by three to get 448 for 93-95. They could have kept going if they had decided to.
I would need a '94 torch red to help complete my collection of every body style and engine of Torch Red C4's, the other needed car is a '96 LT4 convertible.
One day it will happen.
