Default Alum Heads?

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but how do I know if my 89 Z51 coupe has alum. heads?

I went to buy spark plugs, and everywhere I go to check what plugs to use, I get the same question, alum or iron heads... I'm guessing they're cast iron, but I want to be sure...

Thanks, and sorry for the stupid question!

All 87 to 96 used aluminum heads (unless someone put on aftermarket iron heads). Try a magnet to make sure.

Don't forget the 86s. All the convertibles and some of the coupes.

I think the coupes released in late 86 with aluminum heads.

If you pull the valve covers there is a stamping number that you can use to cross reference. Unless they have been changed they should be cast.

I thought the bolts for the valve covers on the aluminum's were down the center of the valve cover & for the iron heads the bolts were on the outer edges of the valve cover ? Is this correct ?
