Default headlight cover flew off...

While I was driving the headlight cover on my 84 just flew off. I stopped the car and was able to find it. It appears it is just bonded onto the headlight frame. What sort of epoxy should I use to rebond it? THanks.

I forget the name of the stuff or where to buy but I believe it is the same stuff as used to bond the panels to the frame, like the rear quarters. BTW you need to clean and sand the area to be reglued real good to ensure a good adhesion. I would think you could also use some of that 2-part epoxy found in the local auto parts store as well.

Don't use epoxy, it won't hold.
Check Eastwood, they have a structural adhesive used for body panels, that is what you want to use. Epoxy will not flex, the Eastwood adhesive will flex and give.

I had the same problem on my '88. When the cover flew off, I was shocked to see that it was held on by double sided body tape, lol. Anyway, I lost mine never to be seen again, so I bought a replacement from vette2vette that was still attached to the frame. I would go with the other suggestions above about the structural adhesive used for bonding body panels.

I've used that stuff before. Wasn't to impressed. The stuff I was talking about is a two part adhesive that comes out of a gun (not the stuff I mentioned earlier from the local auto parts store, that was just a cheap way out suggestion). You could probably go to a body shop and give them a little cash and they would do it in a matter of a few minutes, it doesn't take that stuff long to dry.

Wow, it just flew right off??? Well, while it's off - take this opportunity to change your headlight fluid and make sure to add equal amounts of stabilizer and a couple of drops of candlepower fluid. Just kidding.... Hope everything works out for you!
