Can you be a little more specific as to what kind of show it is? I would hate to give you pointers on a fully judged point system show if all you are doing is going to a peoples choice local fund raiser. The amount of preparation work varies greatly.

The real thing that seperates you from someone else is overall condition and cleanliness. Clean each area (wheels, engine, body, interior) and keep walking around the car looking it over for anything you missed.

First decide what class you're going in... Show, Super street or Street. 'Show' is the toughest and your car will need to be just about perfect in every way. The car will be inspected all over..exterior, interior and engine compartment. 'Super street' is the same except the engine compartment is not inspected. 'Street' class allows for cars with a little more wear and tear.
A good thing to do is prep your vette before you leave for the show. I usually get my car to look as good as it can before I leave my driveway. When I get to the show, I redue all the detail work. The more detailing you can do the better chance you have in the competition. Don't get discouraged in the beginning. Enjoy the challenge, watch and learn. Good luck!!

It is a local vette club show and there will be best of show, peoples choice, oldest corvette etc. I am not really planning on winning but more to meet other people in the club, get a free t-shirt. I am both new to the club and the forum. Thanks for the advice

Just show up and have a good time. It's fun to be at a car show that is all Corvettes. Clean the car up really good and just go and enjoy. If there is only a few awards it is hard to win one, but that is not what it's about.
What year is your car? Coupe or Convertible?
I have a 1993 Torch Red 6 speed Coupe, White Leather Interior

Have Fun

Make sure your windows are spotless inside and out

Make sure your engine is presentable and open the hood. Most people won't vote for a car if the hood is not open

Keep your interior spotless.

Use something like Eagle One wet tire shine on your tires . Then spray your wheel wells with the stuff. I really looks good.

Have fun ! have fun !! have fun !!!

Good luck

They always told me don't expect to win , but if you do a good enough detailing job you always have a shot ...they usally have 3 places in every catergory ...I have one many a times by just busting my butt detailing every knook and krany....engine , wheel wells , wheels , tires , interior rugs under the rugs and a biggie inside your gas tank hatch in the back . Oh and they always seem to want to see all the gaps in between the hatch and the removable top to see if they are clean and dust free !!! Good luck

Most car shows are to raise money for a charity. Keep that in mind. Wash the car, show it and be proud. It seems that car shows are mostly one by people who frequent them and vote for each others cars. Just go, have fun and remember that it's for a good cause.

I just did my first show and won 2nd place. Missed first by 3 points.
Is your class broken down to 84-90 & 90-96 or 84-96? Better chances when split. This is what the judges looked for at the show I was in,
1.Paint- 25 points. overall condition, no wax in the seems, detail etc.

2.Underhood-25 points. how clean, any chrome?, valve covers and runners look good?, does the under side of the hood look good (no water spots) ect.
3.Interior- 25 points.how clean, good carpet?, are the seats detailed, seat backs cleaned, do the door panels look good?

4.Tire & Wheels- 10 points. Again, how clean and detailed, Do the lug nuts match, do you have good center caps, valve stem caps, do the tires match ,are they worn real bad.

5.Trunk area-5 points. Are there any missing pieces, torn carpet, broken speaker grills , ect.

6. Chassis- 10 points. How detailed is the front end A-arms, sway bars, rotors, calipers. Does the rear end have oil or grease dripping from it. Good luck, Hope you have as much fun as I did.

What do you all normally do about under the hood. Mine looks horrible and really doesn't wash clean.
