Got the new Bilsteins in this morning. The only one that was actually leaking was the right rear, and man was it leaking. The upper bushing literally disintegrated when the shock dropped outta the hole from all the oil. It just came apart. The car rides MUCH diffferent now. Way stiffer. I like it. Feels more stable. The car only has 32,000 miles on it. Anyone know the life expectancy of the shocks with select ride? Seems they shoulda gone a tad longer.
I replaced the original Bilsteins with new ones on my 94 coupe last year (46,000 miles). It really made a big difference in ride and handling. Shocks wear out very slowly so you never notice the difference until you replace them.
Did you purchase them without the actuators? Mine just hit 40K and that may soon become an item on the (thankfully short) replace list.
No actuators, just the shocks. $700 to my door from shox.com. I had to wait a couple months for the rear. They were on backorder from Bilstein. The wait kinda sucked but now it's worth it. The ride is very nice.
That's what I need to do soon, as I have one front leaking.
I was told by a local Corvette parts man that as long as they aren't leaking the Bilstien's are good. Not sure how true that is, but then again he sells used ones, so could be just a story.
