Well the C4 got it's first use of yellow in '86 with the convertible edition (Indi Pace Car), but I don't know if it was called Competition Yellow or not. I can check my Corvette Black book later if you want.

The name "competition yellow" came out in 1993 thru 1996 color code 53.
Before that it was just called "yellow" color code 35 which started in 1986 thru 1992.

Code 53 was first called Competition Yellow and it appeared first in 1990. '91 was back to Code 35, Yellow as was '92 (mine). '93 saw the return of Competition Yellow, code 53.
And there is a slight difference in the colors when you have them side by side, at least to my S/O's eyesight. I can't tell, but then I have trouble w/colors!!
