Default Glass Tops

I have a 92 (white with red interior) and am considering glass tops. Just wondered about the pro and cons from the board members. The one I'm considering has the blue tint. I live in No. Calif. and it gets hotter than hell here in the summer altho the car wouldn't be parked outside all that often.

They are lighter than Fiber ones so taking them off is easier. I have a red interior and BRONZE one remeber blue and red make purple. Your interior will be hotter in the summer but fall and winter it will be nice and cozy.

Default Blue tint great for me.

I've got a '96 that is black on black. I live in So Cal. and It keeps it cool enough for me. Plus its great to drive around during summer with the extra view.

Bronze... luv it. Even in Florida I'm sure its hotter here no problem whatsoever. The only time it was an issue was coming home from the beach after spending way... to much time and was fried. I use a sunjacket when its parked at work during the day to keep the interior cool and out of the sun.

Funny thing I recently rode in a vehicle with a normal roof and it felt weird not having a glass roof. You'll luv it.

Here's the sunjacket:

Default ...transparent top....

...i just purchased a top with blue tint and went through the research myself concerning the comfort level in warmer climates. there was one person from florida that had one on his 94 like mine and said that the a/c kept it comfortable enough in his cockpit so i went ahead and bought mine, seeing that here in western washington, the climate is relatively mild. look up "transparent roofs"......there were several that responded in the thread. i love mine...it is a very nice touch even on a cloudy day to be able to look up and outside.

LOL its polo green. How's the new top?

Yep even on a mid summer day with high humidity, you can put your AC in recirc mode it can freeze you out. Actually on some days the warmth coming through feels good. I find the most exciting times with a glass top are during a thunderstorm, seeing lightning strike nearby can make you duck LOL. Or at night the street lights and full moon.

I use teh clear top in winter and solid in summer. I change them out at the equinoxes. The Clear takes advantage of greenhouse to warm the interior in the winter but in teh summer its too much and I want to reduce interior damage from teh sun in summer. Clear is light, solid is quieter, Clear gives better visability and situational awareness but the solid is better insulated. I waffle back and forth as to which one looks better on the car. I usually prefer the "Eyebrow" look that the solid one gives but since I put on my gunmetal Wheels (people compliment my "Black" wheels) I prefer the clear. One thing I fear but I may just be paranoid is that either the solid roof or the rest of the car will fade at a different pace from not always doing service together which might look silly. Another consideration is if you have both tops and store teh extra in the hold you dont have the option of spontaneusly pulling over and taking the top off since your extra top will be taking up the stow. I used to wonder about that when I would go to lust after new vettes and see teh both roofs cars setting on teh lot with on roof on and on in the stow. So you might consider where you will store the top not currently in use. The interchangable roofs are oen of my favourite features of the car. You can change the looks in just a few minutes and change the features as well. Its alomost liek haveing two cars. I liek it so much Ive been really considering taking a couple of old trashed roofs laying around (cracked clear roofs actually) and putting headliners in them and fiberglassing over them so I can paint them different ways like red (my car is red) with black center stripe, black with red trim, red with small black and silver stripes off to one side ect... It wouldnt cost too much to get em painted and if it looks retarded I can change it and go back original in a few minutes.

Default ...roof.....

...hi there jetlocky....i have reaaly enjoyed the roof except for it coming loose the other day, and that is a warning to everyone reference the fasteners that hold those nutplates on the roof in front. if you hear any rattling up there, it is time to take it off and find what the problem is. so today, if i get time, i am going to remove the roof, and try and get those screws/nutplates located and secured properly so that i do not have any rattles and and looseness in the area again. other than that, i love my top, not sure when i will put the other back on.....

I sat in one with a blue tint. looks cool at nite.
You won't have to worry about the heat in Nor Cal this summer. Its gonna rain. I don't think its gonna stop this year.

Default ...removed my roof...

....took my roof back off and checked to see about the nutplates....they were still secure so being very careful i removed the fasteners and applied a threadlocker and put them back in and tightened the h*** out of them. then put the top back on, the fasteners from below picked up the threads with no problem. i secured it, took it for a drive, stopped and ran the screws down the rest of the way....and finally, peace and quiet....hoping the threadlock will work, and hoping i do not have another heart stopping event.

You'll like it having the hard top and glass top. Gives you a chance to change the appearance of the car along with letting the sun in when you want. I just bought a hard top for mine, so now I have both.
I have the opposite car as you. Mine is Torch Red with White Leather Interior.

I just put my solid top back on this weekend... The sun is getting pretty strong now and a transparent top makes for a hot ride, even when it's only 70F outside...

The transparent top won't go back on until winterime for me...
