I don't know it for a fact but I would think that if the center section were removed the airflow to the radiator would be be dramaticly reduced.

He is 100% right, you would loose about 50-70% of the air flow causeing the car to over heat. also please keep the radiator clean. lots of grass clips and trash cakes on there.

I've heard a couple of people say they removed without any problems and a few said they had overheating. I haven't taken mine off the '96, but when I drove the '79 with it off, it overheated. IMO, try it and see what happens - you can always put it back.

That could not be more true!!! The airdam is designed to allow the air to "slam" off it and direct straight up where your cooling system is. By removing this section the air will travel in a straigh path... past teh opening. You will run a risk of overheating.

I can let you know in two weeks... My ride is getting painted and I have the new pieces so I told the body shop to remove the outer pieces ... paint it and I'll drive it home and put the new ones on ...

The front spoiler helps to push air up into
the radiator. If you take it off it will reduce the
airflow and the engine will run hotter.

The center section of the spoiler assembly is what directs air into the radiator and A/C condensor. The side pieces help with handling at speed by directing air out to the sides of the car and reduces the air flowing under the car. Too much air under the car will cause the car to actually rise up a bit and reduce the amount of downforce on the tires.

IMHO, leave them in place.

I have a "Big Mouth Air Dam" on mine without the center section. I did replace the outer ones with new ones when I did the Big Mouth install.

It doesn't help any when sitting in traffic, but does run 5-10° cooler when moving. I do have the option of reinstalling the center section to the Big Mouth if I want.

I was doing work on the front body kit piece on my car and drove it a few days with nothing on the front (that piece youre talking about, or thie ground effects) and I noticed it running a little hotter.

I had no choice but to remove mine because I ran over roadkill and it got damaged. So far, I've been running as cool as I was before, thanks to my 160 degree T-Stat.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions , I wanted to try to blend it in with the rest of the color but it just doesn't seem possible. Thanks for all the info

When I bought my car someone had removed the whole thing. Spent almost a year trying to track down why I was over heating. My temps ran 220 - 230 when it was 70 80 outside, and in traffic would shot up to 235 - with out A/C. Tried replacing just about everything there is to do with the cooling system -- radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses -- nothing really made a difference. Finally, I bought and replaced just the center section (I have a front spoiler, so I couldn't didn't get the side sections) -- temps dropped to 170 - 180. On hot days I hit 185, 195/200 with A/C. In stop and go traffic I might hit 220 when it's 90 plus outside. That little $39.00 part makes a whole lot of difference
