hi! just bought my first vette and i love it! it's a 90 stock coupe and the fuel guage doesn't work and the seat belt light stays on.the owner before me said the dealer installed a new fuel pump and left the sending unit wire unconnected. i took the car to a mechanic who said he traced the problem up to a board under the dash and it would cost 1,000 dollars to fix it.what do you guys think? or what could be the problem. thanks---the blackwidow

The seller will ALWAYS attempt to make any problem sound minor and easily fixed.
That's why, before you buy, you tell HIM to fix it and then get back to you.

You have two choices now:

1) Spend whatever it takes to fix the problem.
2) Learn to live with it.

I'd take #2....

I go w/fixing the problems. You just need to hunt down some part prices , buy a service manual and do your own work. It would probably be alot cheaper than 1k

I agree. Buy a service manual. The quote is probably 75% labor, and you can find almost any part you need at a better price on the Internet.

First of all I'd spend the 10-20 min. it takes to pull the fuel pump and make sure everything is infact hooked up. Then report back with an ohm meter in hand.

thanks for the help guys! i started her up today and guess what! the fuel guage is reading full! there are 75 miles on the last fillup so it must be right. i'm thinking now--maybe a short or faulty ground? i also have a small oil leak coming from over the rear spark plug on the drivers side. think it could be the intake gasket? thanks again for your help!! blackwidow

factory service manuals are available at www.helminc.com.

Check the C4 Tech FAQ on the top of the page (it's a sticky) in C4 Tech. It has other books and guides worth looking into.
