OK, my damn rear quarter panel (??) is kind of pealed off (right above the back wheel.) The part directly above the back part of this wheel too. I know this is a terrible description of where i am talking about, but the top part is somewhat seperated from the bottom (especially toward the front but somehow totally connected at the back part of the panel.) The bottom part would be where a mud flap would be (if it wasn't a vette.) Anyhow, is there any sort of special bonding glue type material that could be a quick fix to my problem. (There seems to be no other damage to this panel)
P.S. If anyone knows where I am talking about and can give a better description, that would probably be a lot more helpful.

Are you talking about the lower part (below the belt line) that has the marker light in it?

Hey, that's at least THREE Corvette Kids on this forum now... There ain't enough room in this here town for all of us! Good luck with your problem, body work is not my forte!
Thanks for posting that pic....my digital camera is a piece of junk and decided to not work. I am refering to the upper panel, right above the red/white light. (However, my car does not have the black parallel piece which I don't think should make any differene.) The part that is directly above the red part is still connected but as you move right on the body line all the way to the wheel-well, the rest of it is not connected anymore and it kind of bows out. I hope this clears up what I failed to explain in the first post. Now I'm all ears
The problem is located on the passenger side right above the seam/the seam itself I suppose. It's as if you were to tear a shirt or something where the stitching is. There are no cracks or anything which is why I thought it might be possible for a quick fix. Could you further explain what kind of special gun it is for the SMC bonding adhesive and where/how muh it would cost to purchase these two items? Thanks!
Sorry to say I'm not really a kid anymore. I got the car when I was 17 but I'm now 22 and should have graduated college this year but I figured what the hell, I'll take a "victory lap." I'm not ready for a real job just yet, need to drink carefree for atleast another year
i had a 92 do the same thing. i first went to a local automotive paint supply store and ask a pile of questions. he gave me a 2 part mixing epoxy agent made for smc. you can get it several ways as far as dry time goes. 30, 60, 90, 6hrs. i got the hr stuff, followed directions and let me tell you, this pannel will not break or come apart again. this stuff is rated in the tonnage. i like it so much i bought the canvas bag kit. has everything. very simple to use and it works as described. i even glued a six pack together from top to bottom and i can't get them apart. if you were alittle closer i could hook you up, it shouldn't take that much. i think the kit i got for around 110.00.
The area where you describe the quarter panel is held on like this:
There is a plastic strip about a foot long, that's glued to the bottom of the quarterpanel. That strip is then bolted to the top of the rear bumper cover.
If that strip came loose (unbolted or unglued, it would through off the positions of both of those pieces...
the bonus part is that that piece is easy to fix if you can get ahold of some of that SMC adhesive. (Go to any body paint shop and ask about what to do).

22? Not a kid? Thanks for the laugh, it's been a hell of a week.... Let's see, that make you a few years younger than my younger child and a few years older than my older grandkids! No slam intended, glad to see you and all young blood on the forum. All the other old farts are laughing with me though.....
Yea, I know I'm still a "kid." Glad you got a laugh out of it. I've just been thinking about having to get a real job and cutting down on my heavy drinking, not looking forward to either. A little weird having all my friends graduating with real jobs and not being able to get rowdy with me.
Anyway, thanks for all the tips guys. Looks like I will be heading to a shop to find this SMC epoxy stuff.
One last question though; what did you use to hold the panels flush together? I figure it will have to be held together for a while, especially if it is the 6 hr stuff. And a vise may be harmful to the paint so did you use one with a rag underneath or something??

Hell yeah, don't settle down any sooner than you have to. it's over-rated! I'm glad to be a bachelor again and enjoying my second childhood, or wait... did my first ever stop? Hmmmm.... You can use some of those long reach C clamp Vise Grips with wood underneath to protect the surfaces. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have posted in the thread that I started, but thought two places are better than one.
I have the same problem, I stopped by the local Body shop this morning, He has a "Panel Bonding Adhesive" 3M brand "Automix 8115 Adhesive" is this the correct stuff to make the repair? He said that he used it to bond a fiberglass door panel on a Camaro (State Trooper Patrol car).
