i posted a little while back about my top glass coming unglued. well i don't have much optimism if fixing it so i'm in the market for a new top. i don't want to pay the thousand dollars plus that mid america/ecklers/etc. want and i want to stay away from astro top (that's what i have now)...so what can i do? who can i go with to get an 'inexpensive' solution
Most of the good quality new tops I've seen have all been around $1000. But I did notice that Corvette Salvage had tops for $595 with core exchange... Don't know what kind of condition they'd be in since they're coming from a salvage yard, but I guess it cuoldn't hurt to call them and ask...
If it was glued once, it can be glued again. Why no optimism in fixing it?
well they sent me the new glue for it...but only half of the top let loose, so i tried to get the other half to let loose and it's tight. so i have to find a way to get the part that is free clean so the glue can bond and even if that works, the other side is going to go soon if the other half did.
The corners of my top had come unglued and I reglued it with no problems so far. Well there is one problem. The top is tight now so it creaks a little while driving. I'm going to try putting some weatherstripping grease in there to see if that helps. I saw anti creak rubber shims to that are sold. Here are some links on here where the glueing was talked about. There may be more info on glueing the top, try a search?
Getzen88 - Where did you get the glue? I might be needing to do this myself should it come loose again.
i just called the guys at astro top and told them what happened. i bought the top in the summer of 2000 and when i was driving this spring, the top came loose. he said they have changed their bonding system since my top was made so they'd send me out a tube of the new bonding agent.
