I've seen a number of posts on this forum from folks who take care of their Vette's finish in stages. Being a hack I've always just washed her down and put on a coat of canuba wax. Could somebody explain the process to me of polishing, buffing, waxing etc. or point me to some place that really discusses it. I've used rubbing compound on a few scratches before (not on the Corvette) which leaves a dull finish behind that I had trouble getting rid of with just the wax.
I had swirl marks when I bought my Vette. I used 3M finnesse-it II, part no. 051131-05928 with a cheap 10" buffer from wal-mart and a wool pad. Then topped it off with two or three coats of Macguires Gold Class. I had great results for a novice.

Hey 95polo, I have used Finesse-It for years, just recently I learned they (3M) have even better products for swirl marks, scratches etc. 3M Swirl Mark Remover (39009) I know how original of a name! Anyway I just recently used it on my polo green baby along with a porter-cable DA polisher w/an orange pad and the results are phenominal.
Macguires Gold Class......put on 2 coats so far this season.....I love this wax...I got great results.....just used cloths...I dont own a buffer.....:O(

pologreen91,
Take a peek at the discussions over at http://autopia.org/forums/ Those guys are SERIOUS about detailing and car care. I read and learned a lot there the last couple of months. So much so that I restored the paint on my old 85 oxidized red pickup and sold it for a couple of hundred dollars more than I was originally going to ask for it. The Vette is now the beneficiary of my practice on the pickup and it is looking GOOD.
Easy, go with pinnacle products I use hte signature series (works great on my DRM c4 and my dads maroon 68, both dark metallics) kit and go through these steps : pinnacle shampoo, paintwork cleansing lotion polish, top it off with signature carnuba...runs about 80 for the kit but well worth it IMO.
here is a recent picture of my dads 68 at a car show after I did the pinnacle detail came out pretty good for the amount of time I put into it so give pinnalce products a try.
