just curious what v6 is rated at 335ftlbs or more??
paul
My bad, its not a V6 its a V8 ratings are as follows. V8, 32-Valve, DOHC, SEFI engine with a horsepower rating of 282@5400 and a torque rating of 325@3400 on the wife's SUV.
You're absolutely right. Almost anything can beat it these days. Your wife's SUV is so damn fast you could put her miata IN her SUV and stil run a circle around a POS l98 powered vette.
Seriously man, I smoke pot too, but I don't sit around and compare useless peak numbers.
Never said it was faster, just that it had more horsepower, just like most cars and trucks today have more horsepower then the L98. Not saying there is anything wrong with it, its just not a big deal to have 250hp anymore in a sports car.
And you better stay off the pot, it will stunt your growth.
While your at it why don't we talk about how inferior a P51 mustang is to an F22 Raptor. I wonder what your SUV's company was putting out as far as Horsepower back in 85-91?

Albert Einstein said "Not everything counted counts, not everything counts can be counted" ie.... chick apeal.... very few women will gravitate towards an SUV, or anything american made. Mustangs, camaro's, viper's, TA's, new or old always come up short when compared to a vette...... I am 43 years old, and love watching the heads turn, of women & men, when I drive my Slow '91 \ L98, down the drag....
I can say one thing. Mine starts everyday and is very reliable. I can drive in the rain if I choose too. I can't say that for the opti motors that hve to be garaged.
I really think the whole optispark problem is way overblown. I know you are taking a jab because some here arent being too kind to the L98 but I hate to see people get paranoid about buying an LT1 Vette because they think the opti is this extremely sensitive component that needs to be pampered. The LT1 engines are also very reliable and dont need to be garaged because it rains.
With the C6 out now and especially with the C6 Z06 coming out shortly, the L98, LT1, LT4, and LT5 are all "old news", but I wouldnt have a problem driving any of them. They are all still Vettes and were groundbreaking cars for their time.

TPI performance hasn't been eclipsed until very recently.
Go 3 years back and find me a sports car that gets 26+ mpg highway, runs 14.0ish at the track, and handles as good. Then tell me why it took them 15-20 years to figure it out.

This V6 has more low and torque and HP than your wife's SUV and it is a 1992 version of a fifty year old GM design. V6
I know that it will go longer between overhauls than your wife's car.
However, I'd rather have a V8

The L-98 is ancient history and so is the LT-1 the LT-4/5 the LS-1
the LS-6 they're all old news now.
God help anyone who doesn't own the LS-7?
Of course who'd want a ancient 1967 Stingray thats really old skool.
Corvettes are time pieces and at the same time they are timeless.
The L-98 is a fine engine and it can be built to porduce some serious horsepower. Reliable horsepower.
A 1963 Stingray looks as modern as it did 42 years ago.
I hate to say it but SUV's are becomming ancient history.
Rollover rates are very high, poor gas mileage, low resale. Here SUV's and motorhomes are selling about as fast a boat.
A friend parked her Suburban to save $100.00 a week in gas charges.
SO this is about SUV numbers, and some foriegn things, again comparing apples and oranges. Well that being the case MY SUV (03 yukon) has more hp. than my L98, oh yeah and your wifes SUV or meatta 295hp/300+ tq high tech, state of the art, blah ,blah, blah.
Whatever, I do agree w/you about "what is going on today" L98, LT1, LT4, LT5, ARE ALL A THING OF THE PAST. Im just one of those guys who lives w/ one foot in the past as well. A dinosaur possibly, but I can still apprecaitte many different ways to get to the same place, with no quams of someones methods or reasoning(pertaining to your comments).
However, now that your Lt5 is ancient technology, and has low numbers, compared of course to the ls6 or the new hemi 6.0, you must be getting itchy to get off such a low tech piece, for a 21st cent. state of the art vehicle that dreams are made of. I hope you enjoy your personal race to the future
Personally I really think you are just tryin to ratle someones cage, I personally dont care either way, if you can get somone to buy into it , more power to you. just another .02
My two friends (one owns a Maxima one an Altima) gave my car no respect because I told them the horsepower rating. So finally, I gave them each a ride; they of course each agreed that my car was on a whole new level when it came to power compared to their "high horsepower" imports. Enuff said. Guys with low funds love torque.
It seems no one is answering the guys original question. He wanted to know [quote] "Why is the L98 never talked about as much as the LS1 and others? "[quote]
You may not like my answer, but at least I answered him honestly, more than most of you did with your put downs. Try answering his question instead of giving your bias comments about how great the L98 it is. We all know how good it is. He wants to know why its being disregarded? Only a few have actually answered his question.
So, in summary, the L98 is disregarded because of ignorant people (like you?) who can't see past a HP number printed in a magazine.
Again you don't answer the question. You are the ignorant one! I don't have a problem with the L98 Vettes, I like them all. Oh and I know what an L98 can do. My first Vette was a 1986 that I put 120,000 miles on it.
Now try answering his question with some intelligence.
