I just heard on the radio here that a severe storm producing nickel size hail is coming my way! I have a car cover but no garage or car port! Will this hail do any damage to my car? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I haven't had this car but five weeks and I'm very concerned!
Thanks for the reply. So far, lots of high wind and its currently raining domestic animals! If that rear hatch gets damaged, will it be difficult to find a proper fitting replacement?

break down some card board boxes and tape it across the glass, then put the cover back over it. The cardboard will absorb most of the impact on the glass.
Thanks Kwik! Looks like the worst has passed. How nice, I hate it when the weather service starts screaming the sky is falling! Repent now! Throwing a new Corvette owner into a tizzy and then nothing happens! At least I know what to do when false alarm happens.
it may not happen tonight but it could during next storm. get it protected asap, rear hatch is expensive, front windshield is not cheap, not to mention the water damage after glass is broken. cardboard boxes and car cover sounds like a winner.
i live in tornado alley in oklahoma and all storms have me nervous. my family, my house and my vette all stand to be lost. storm cellar for my family and insurance for the rest. still isn't a pleasant thought
Sorry to say, nickle size hail or bigger can do more then just damage/break the glass. Several years ago, when I was stationed in texas, there was a used car lot down the road that left some cars out during a hail storm. The hail ranged between nickle to quarter sized. Almost all the cars were pitted; the two corvettes on the lot had masive paint and body damage (one of which I was looking to buy at the time). I ended up buying one from another dealer who managed to protect his cars.

My aunt used to work at a new/used car lot. When Hurricane Andrew hit Miami in 1992, whatever cars weren't damaged by the storm were damaged by the hammer. They actually inflicted their own damage just to collect on the insurance!!!
My car at the time sustained very little damage except 7 flat tires after the storm picking up all the roofing nails and debris.

Be careful, the aftermath is usually worse!!!
Don't think these guys did it themselfs -- the cars looked like golf *****.
