On my 92 it looks like the mufflers/exhaust tips are painted black. I am assuming this was from the factory as nothing else on my car was modified in any way when I bought it. That said, the paint is peeling badly and starting to look bad.
I am considering putting Corsa's on, but am having a hard time selling the wife on the cost. Does anyone know if I can sand the mufflers down and repaint? If so, with what type of paint?
This may sound a bit odd....But if you want them to remain a "flat" black and you are concerned about the high heat....I would try BBQ flat black paint in a spot where you won't see it...and then see if it flakes off or not. This type of paint you can get at your local hardware store...it's used for re-furbishing BBQ'S.
I just did it. Degreased and sanded, then 3 coats of slightly glossy (not flat black) Krylon gas grill paint. Came out very well, but can't give you any long term answer as I just did it last week!

I used one of those 500 degree ceramic paints after cleaning and lightly sanding, but that was a few years ago. It worked just fine and looked much better. My B&Bs look even better.
