Squeeking Dash
My 93 coupe has developed an intermittant squeek that seems to be coming from the dash. Is this a common problem and how difficult is it to trace and correct? I know I''m not giving a lot of specifics but its hard to pin down the exact location while the car is moving.
I get the same thing every once in awhile. I haven't been able to pin-point where it's coming from either, all I know about mine, is that it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. It's hard to figure out what it is, because it doesnt do it all the time, and I hope for my sake it never does.
There is a very good chapter for identifying the source of interior body noise (squeaks & rattles) in the 1996 Helm's (factory) shop manuals. The same info may be in earlier shop manuals as well. Basically it identifies about 10 various types of interior noise from plastic rubs you are likely to encounter (chirps, squeaks, clicks, etc.), the likely trouble spots, how to go about fixing them and a list of repair materials with their vendor source.

I just picked up a set of 93 Helm's manuals. I'll have to take a look to see what they say,
The same thing is happing with my 1993 Coupe. I have identified the source of the rattling / squeaking as coming from under the passenger side dash. If you remove the cover (it’s only a couple of screws), there are a bunch of wires behind it. The wires are hitting each other and the cover and are causing the noises. It took me forever to figure out that this was where all the noise was coming from. I purchased some cable ties to wrap the wires together and a piece of foam to wedge in the space. That should take care of the problem. Now I just need to find the time to actually do it. This may be the source of your squeaking too.
