Default '84 A/C Help

Hey Guys, I am trying to diagnose my A/C. So far I know that it does not blow cool air. We put some R12 in it yet no joy. Can someone tell me where to start looking? I am not a mechanical wonder yet I know a left handed monkey wrench from a right handed one.

Is the compressor coming on? Do you know what the low and high side pressures were after you added some gas? Feel the small, lower line, just as it enters the evaporator and then the upper, larger line. Both should be colder than ambient with the upper maybe a bit cooler than the lower line, but the lower shouldn't be hot - at least not right where it enters the evaporator and the upper should be cool. If they are cooler and about the same, then something could be blocking air flow from the evaporator core to the vents. Remove the resistor pod on the evaporator housing and make sure the door inside moves when you switch from heat to a/c.

At this point a GM Shop Manual from HELM would be a very big asset in diagnosing & fixing the problem.

Also, if there was air in the line it will seriously hamper cooling. You really need the dual gauge set when filling the system.

Thx Guys, As I recall we went to about 60 lbs on the pressure whaen we added gas (low side). I cannot hear the system cycling on and off. I will check the temps on the hoses tomorrow morning.
