Default Emblems - Adhesive / Nuts?????

Hey folks...

For those of you who have changed or removed and replaced your emblems my question is as follows:

Will the emblems be fine if I DON'T have the nuts on the back side?

I've got new emeblems for my girl.... went to attach the rear emblem last night, removed the backing on the adhesive, placed the emblem and attached...All is well. Went to attach the nuts to the back side and the posts broke on both sides while screwing the nuts on.

I haven't done the front emblem yet, but I just KNOW I am going to have trouble attaching the nuts on the front. I can hear them dropping in the front of the hood as we speak....

So my question is this... Will the emblems be okay without the nuts attached? It seems to me that the nuts are just additional support. As an example, the emblems on the side and rear of my Silverado are the same adhesive but have no posts for rear nut attachment.

So, anyone out there running their emblems with adhesive only?

I think most of your questions are answered here:

The two nuts hold the offsets tight. The nuts cut the threads into the plastic post. When you remove the hood nuts, use a 10mm deep well socket, put some clay (same stuff you use if you've clay bar'd your car) in the socket. When you press the socket onto the nut and loosen it the nut will stay inside the socket stuck to the clay.

If you don't have any clay, tuck a rag into the hole so that nothing can fall down if you accidently drop it.

When you tighten them its just to snug the center of the emblem.

After it sits in the sun for several hours it should seat down on the gas door. Don't tighten them too much.

Funny you should ask!. I just finishe putting a front emblem on my `87 a few mins ago ( thanks to 93 Jet Jockey for the clay advice ). I used some of that monkey poop that they use around windshields, grommet holes, etc. & it worked like a charm. Just stuff some of it into a 10mm deepwell, & unscrew the speed nut.Tip: to put the new emblem on the hood, unless you have a friend nearby, or some really long arms, just place the emblem into the holes in the hood, then stuff a towel between the emblem, & the front facia. The towel holds the emblem in place while you screw the speed nuts on

I replaced both emblems. I did not use the original self threading nuts on the new emblems. I bought lock nuts at Lowe's and used them. They were able to thread right on the rear emblem but I had to use a die on the front emblem studs. I threaded them, ran the nuts down the, then used deep well socket with 3 nuts in the socket to attatch it to the hood. Top nut of the 3 would thread onto the stud. Bottom 2 were used just as space fillers in the socket. I don't think my front emblem had adheshive on it but I know the rear did. I broke one of the studs on the rear and have yet to have a problem. Take your time, be patient, and pay attention and all will go well

Same here, my front one did not have adhesive on it, but the rear one did. I also broke one of the rear post, :o but so far, not problem with it staying on.
On the rear one, it was a threaded metal post, not like the plastic one up front.
