I had the weather stripping on my '96 replaced with new GM stripping. For the most part all is well but I was getting wind noise on the drivers side. I found that the door glass was riding outside of the weather strip channel in the last inch, upper portion, of the forward weather strip. Anyone know how to correct this?
did you get all of the seals from dealer? i am planning on doing mine also.
Yeah, they were all GM dealer parts. I'm told the GM ones are better than aftermarket but it was probably a GM guy who told me that! Both Corvette America or Eckler's offer an aftermarket set for about $500 for everything; the GM is, as expected, a good bit higher. I just replaced the upper seals around the windows and roof panel.
A pretty good repair if the seals aren't too far gone is to patch the bad places with black RTV. Works really well on tears.
DEFINITELY go with GM original for the foam seal around the A and B pillars. DOn't know about the door seals, which I also did GM, but since they're harder in general, you might be okay with generic rubber. The key is good, soft foam or rubber, otherwise, it'll kill your window motor to push against it all the time, and you won't get a good weather seal.
You can get improve things a little by rubbing in some silcone spray to the seals with a cloth and eventually you should get a nice fitted seal. It's been 2 months with mine and starting to mold perfectly to the window.
