Just got back from San Diego with the '94. The previous owner removed the mufflers on the car, so I was originally concerned about the noise level.
Fortunately, it wasn't a problem for either my fiance or I. In fact, we both like the sound. Because of this, I'd like to remove them from my '92, and I was wondering if anyone makes a kit for that kind of thing. One where I can just clamp straight pipes on in place of the muffler.
Anyone know of such a thing, or should I just take it in and have some welded in?
Just take it to the exhaust joint and have them cut off the ppes just before the mufflers, then get pipes welded on to go directly to the back with some nice looking tips of your choice...
The accessory catalogs like Mid-America have kits, but they are expensive. And because you have to cut the mufflers off on the LT1 cars, it's much easier to go to a muffler shop to have the mufflers cut off and have them bend up a replacement pipe and add some nice looking tips. You should not really have to spend more than $75 to have this done.
does anyone have any sound clips w/no mufflers. I have flowmasters and have been considering cutting them off. The flowmasters have a good sound, but I would prefer something a little louder....
So I took the targa top off for the first time since we got the '94 Saturday. When I went to get my fiance for lunch, I got stopped at a light right at an overpass. Of course when the light turned green, I had to see what it sounded like under the overpass. All I can say is It was even echoing off the overpass!
Funny thing though.... at cruising speed, say 75-80, I hardly notice they're missing. There's a little resonance at the lower speeds, but nothing major and even then, it's usually only noticable under accelleration.
So I stopped by a muffler shop on the way back to work, and luck me, they only want $80 to take them off the '92. Can't wait to hear that one with the top down!

Hmmm, you wouldn't happen to have a soundclip of the flowmasters would you? i'm thinking about them as my first mod.

my 92 has the muffler eliminator "kit" from MAD - it sounds alright - i'd like it louder, and the only way to do that is to remove those coffee cans under the car and get rid of that resonator - then she should sound mean - but i think i need long tubes also, and they are just too expensive, heck, i only paid $4000 for the car!
I had that done straight pipes with no tips. I had the ends angled to blend with the rear facia. Didn't want the ford 5.0 look. Just go to your muffler shop. It should only cost a little bit over 100 bucks. It only take a short time to unbolt and replace with mufflers.
Any body know the dB level for unmufflered exhaust? We have a local sound level ordinance for cars, I wanna open mine up, but dont want 5-0 pulling me over for that, they may wanna take a peek inside my engine bay.......
