Hello, I'm brand new to the forum but I've been reading for the last few weeks now. I'm in the market for a vette, preferably a C4 since thats all I'd be able to afford at 19... But I was curious as to where C4's store the targa tops when they are off. If someone had some pics to show me that'd be great. thanks.
I don't have pics, and I haven't had a chance to take mine off yet - but if you pop the hatch, there's a spot to set it (2 rubber mounts up front hold the top in place)
lol my bad, thats not what I meant at all but it seems through my browsing for vettes that anything newer than a C4 is considered too new and anything older than it is considered 'vintage', the only vettes I've found in my price range have been C4's. Besides the C5's, C4's are my favorite corvettes.
No it won't. Just get liability. At 19 mine was 3-4 hundred every 6 months. Now it is 200 at 21. I guess it is because my car is so old. On the insurance car it says my car is a Chevy coupe. No mention of Corvette, I guess that has something to do with it.

I have two tops and store the tinted one in my library.
The C4 has clips in the rear for holding (not storing) the top when you want to remove it away from home.
Welcome to the forum. Ask lots of questions...someone here will have an answer.

You do realize that if (hopefully never) you make a claim that your carrier is not obligated to honor your insurance as you have not fully disclosed and/or intentionally misrepresented (in their eyes) the item being covered. If they wanted to be real jerks they could even try to make you pay back premiums based on what you should have been paying all along.
I'm mid-40s ( ) with a house, no accidents or tickets in 20 plus years and I just bought a 94. I have very good coverage (maybe too much) but it's still $450.00 every six months. And with just liability if you wreck it you're SOL and on your own. Then you have to add hospitalization coverage, uninsured motorist, etc.
Only my two cents of course. Didn't mean to hijack the thread.
Anyway, welcome to Corvette Forum.
You can find decent C4s at reasonable prices. Read up about them and ask questions before you buy. Decide what you want and then go find it. Don't "settle" for something 'cause you'll only kick yourself later. And with the Forum, if you want a more experienced person to take a look at a car that isn't local to you there is usually somebody on here willing to help.
They have my VIN, I hid nothing from them, I answered all of their application questions. I didn't write that it was a Chevy Coupe, they determined that through the VIN. By the way, it is an 87 Chevy Coupe. I bought the absolute cheapest insurance I could because that was all I could afford and I wouldn't take any other car but a Vette. Also, if I would have taken out collision and liability at the age of 17 when I bought my car it would have been over 1400 every 6 months. That's rediculous on a car with a tax value of 5500. I didn't really have a choice as what to get.

thanks for for all the advice (and to those who actually answered my question ). Not too familiar with vettes yet but im gettin there, this looks like a good place to start heh. btw the vette wouldn't be my only car, i also have a j-body (cavalier) right now thatd I'd keep but want something with a little more power too. another question for u guys... what year did they start putting the 300 hp engines in the C-4's? I remember reading that some of the earlier ones had 240 hp engines (sorry I dont know which engine is which LT-1, LT-5 etc...)

Welcome to the forum! I got my '93 at 19 and I was hooked.
Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your search.
Since you are admittedly learning about C4s I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of the "Corvette Black Book". It contains details on each year Vette built and will be a great aid in deciding which C4 is most appealing. There have been some significant changes to interior, exterior, engines, steering, wheels, and drive train over the C4 production run from 1984-1996.
Once you get some idea of the features that each year brought you will have a starting point. Then you can find a Vette with the desired features and do the test drive(s).

That and hang out on the C4s For Sale section to start getting an idea on pricing and what certain options add to the price.
E-bay can help only a little as typically (not always of course) the people on there don't know anything about the car and just want to turn the car over to make a buck. Case in point, the guy last week on E-bay with a late C4 with the "rare" supercharger option that never existed.
People always think insurance is crazy on vettes for younger people and its not. I bought my 94 at 19, put it on my own policy and it was only 50 dollars more a month than my previous car, a MX6.
MX6 full coverage was 125 a month, the vette 175.
Check out AIG, not the best insurance company from what people say, but i had them and made a claim and they fixed everything with no problem. THey didnt drop me either.
