I have had my car for about a month, its my first Vette. It's a 1996 LT1 with an automatic. If I put my foot in it the car revs up and makes a bunch of noise. Good noise and its doing was its supposed to do, go fast. I'm not doing this often just a few times to see what the car will do and get it up to speed in a hurry on the highway.
The question. Will the computer stop the car from over revving and shift back into high gear safely. I'm not shifting it manually just romping on it in drive. I've seen the tach as high as 5000 + or - rpms and that seemed high to me. It's not going to be a habit to race around, I value my clean driving record, but I do like the power and sound of the car when I put the pedal down.
If no one has tampered with the computer the rev limiter will kick in at about 5800 rpm.
The computer will limit the fuel and cause the engine to lean out and lose power.
Your computer for your year is like a home computer in a way and can be programmed.
Your computer does not have a chip and is a flash computer.
94 through 96.
Yours is an OB2 computer.
Get a power programmer if you want to play,GM dirrect has them for sale this mth .
Thanks for the info, that's what I was hoping for. It is plenty fast for me as is. I'm glad the rev limiter keeps things in check. I'm not a racer and I don't want to blow up my car.

The Corvette's auto trans works just like every other GM auto...left to its own control, it will shift itself before it will allow harm to come to the engine.
You'll soon get used to it....

Welcome aboard! 96 is a great year for C4s - the best, IMO, but then again I'm biased.
