The check engine light came on the other day and my engine was acting weird, I just can’t explain it – something just wasn’t right. I took it to my guy to check it out yesterday and he plugged in the computer and it came back with a MAF Sensor reading. It was reading that there was too much air going to the engine – witch leads me and him to believe that the MAF sensor has gone bad. When he looked up the price for the part he said it was $320.00! Is this correct? Is there any aftermarket MAF Sensors I could get for cheaper and increase horse power?
First, replace the 2 MAF relays on the firewall behind the battery, then see if the code comes back. These are cheap and an easy fix. Half the time the MAF code is really from these.
If the code comes back, get a Bosch or Delco MAF sensor, do not buy the aftermarket. They do not increase power any better than the stock one would with screens taken out, and i'm not convinced of their quality. You won't want to get these from GM, an auto parts store should find one for about $250.
