Default Busted Radiator eek!!!!

Just went for a little cruise tonight before I leave for the Army for a while.

Stopped at walmart came back and it said low coolant. Opened hood and coolant was dripping everywhere on passenger side.

Got some coolant and some water and poured it in there. It got me home, temp was around 197 whole way.

Got into garage and turned it off, and i hear sizzling. Open hood smoke is pouring out, and coolant is flooding everywhere.

Looking in from the passenger side into the radiator via that small rectangular hole, I saw the stream of antifreeze hitting a metal pipe.

Great.

What to do now? I leave for FT. Lewis and then Korea in 2 days.

An-young-ha-sayo.

It sounds like the plastic tank may have split from the right side of the Al core. That happened to my '88 shortly after I took delivery; the solution was to replace the radiator. I've heard that sometimes the tank can be reglued but haven't talked with anyone who has had it done.

Will you be storing the car with someone while you are in Korea.

First, good luck in Korea. I spent 28 years in the Army and never set foot there. Marine son loves the place. Rad swap is a very easy job, two hours max. When you get home it will simply be a part of your get ready routine

i agree with muffin, good luck. my 10 years in army kept me in europe. thoses that have been seemed to like it.

i wouldn't worry about vette while you are gone, at least now you won't have to worry about little brother taking off for a spin. jk

i read here someone bought a new one for around 300. i just removed mine and cleaned it out. easy job, just took forever to get it all cleaned

you might read a bunch of bickering here, but there isn't one of us that is not proud of our soldiers.

let us know how your project went and your time overseas when you get back.

I paid a Chevy Dealer $500 to replace my radiator since I was away from home with no tools.

You should have a great time in Korea as most will speak English and you might be able to pick up a little Korean while there, no pun intended. Though the women can be very strong minded they also can be very sweet too. Good luck with the stint.

Do yourself a favor and throw that piece of plastic crap in the garbage and buy a conventional radiator.I did years ago,it wont cost that much more if any.Do a little digging and you will find one for your car.Plastic expantion tanks on a radiator,G.M.
