I had an unfortunate incident today with my 93 C4 coupe. While driving on a highway that was being resurfaced, I hit a BUMP where the scarified (scraped) part met the old surface. The hit was so violent I thought the car was coming apart. I had the roof off so it was that much more noticible. The cruise control even came on by itself. Not sure if there's any damage other than why I writing.
When I went to put the roof back on, it wouldn't fit. The two front mounts were off about 1/8 inch. Looks like the frame/body got tweaked. After half an hour I finally forced it back into position.
Here's the question. Do I readjust the front mounts so I can get it on and risk all the seals leaking or do I just go through this hassle every time I put it back on?
If the impact was as hard as you say and you've tried to put the roof panel back on (assuming the car was on level ground) and the alignment points are off, I would definately bring the vehicle in for a full four wheel alignment and check the tires for any hidden damage. It would have to be a very severe impact to affect the windshield area. I would think that you would have bent the rims and or blown the tires before doing any frame damage that would impact that area of the vehicle. When they do the alignment you'll see how bad the impact was if they need to relocate shims. I wouldn't relocate the roof panel mounts until the exclusion of all else.
I drove it around town today and it seems alright. The steering wheel is still straight and it seems to track well. Don't see any cracks in the fiberglass or any bent wheels. I'm taking it on my 90 mile round trip to work tomorrow so I'll get a chance to see how it does. I'll probably pop the top off for the ride home tomorrow night. Then I'll see how the roof fits.
just leave the top on for a couple of weeks while you drive it
it should adjust itself! this happend to me and I drove with the top on
for a while and I have not had any problems with it . hope this helps!!!
