Default Plug / Header clearance issues

I have an 85 that is modified for roadracing track only use. Configured with iron vortec heads/carb and Hooker long tube headers. Several of the plugs are very close to header bend, so much so that have to use a box wrench or open end wrench. Sometimes just have to break them to get out. Also, headers are wrapped and on a couple of cyl's the boot has to be fished on with a screwdriver and ends up melting after just a few hours of track use.
Anyone have other header or high perfomance head recommendations?

PIA, driving me crazy

Thanks
Mike

Cut the header tubes and weld in pre-bent tube to get the clearance.

Get some MSD Pro series boots I got some from JEGS. About $20 with terminals.

Thanks to you both for the suggestions, I already use the MSD boots and suffer from heat issues. Moving the header tubes out from the mounting flange may work, but will require re-routing of some goods, like brake lines etc.
Still looking for alternatives, as have motor out for replacement would be a good time to change to angle plug heads maybe.

Again, thank you.

After getting tired of frying the rear plug boot (drivers side) -- we ended up putting a shallow dimple in the tube and running an angled 8.5 MSD boot. Since then, no problem...

I went with the LPE long tubes, over all, they are a great fit

Thanks Ron,

Very nice ride you have there too, can I get in the will for the AN fittings? LOL

Will be looking at all options to get the best solution at the least expense of time, money or loss of reliability.
