I have an 85 that is modified for roadracing track only use. Configured with iron vortec heads/carb and Hooker long tube headers. Several of the plugs are very close to header bend, so much so that have to use a box wrench or open end wrench. Sometimes just have to break them to get out. Also, headers are wrapped and on a couple of cyl's the boot has to be fished on with a screwdriver and ends up melting after just a few hours of track use.
Anyone have other header or high perfomance head recommendations?
Thanks to you both for the suggestions, I already use the MSD boots and suffer from heat issues. Moving the header tubes out from the mounting flange may work, but will require re-routing of some goods, like brake lines etc.
Still looking for alternatives, as have motor out for replacement would be a good time to change to angle plug heads maybe.
After getting tired of frying the rear plug boot (drivers side) -- we ended up putting a shallow dimple in the tube and running an angled 8.5 MSD boot. Since then, no problem...
I went with the LPE long tubes, over all, they are a great fit
