I guess it depends on what you like. They are totally different cars. You like to shift? I think the 90 is better priced.Wanna vert?95 is a good year but price is a little high IMHO.90 has no Opti( a +) but less HP (a -).What is your favorite color?95 is worth 12k-13k,90 8k-10k IMHO.
both sound good to me. the vert adds a bit over coupe price which makes it right in the ballpark at 15 to 16k generally.but finding nicely maintained cars is whats hard.
sounds like you found a pair.
i would have to snag the 90 if it were me.
that sounds like a steal for a clean low mile 6spd car.
black with both tops.
cant go wrong there.
the harder to find of the 2 would be the 90.
I don't mind to shift, in fact I prefer a manual (it also prevents family members who can't drive a shift from wanting to drive it). Red is my preferred color with black a close second.
I love the look of the vert only when it has the top down, otherwise I prefer the look of the coupe..
Any "watchouts" or typical maintenance problems with the 90 model? This would be a driver.................
I just bought a 90 for less than that, but it has more miles. I would go with the 90. Ive had an LT1 Camaro and a 90 vette.
[There] is a difference in HP but you could fix that with the price difference. Either way you will have a nice vette.
I'd take the '95 if it were me. White, easiest color to take care off. Black, the hardest color to take care of. I use my car as a driver, not a racer. For that reason I prefer an automatic. The fun went out of shifting gears decades ago for me. If I were to get a vert it would also have to have a hard top or be priced down enough so I could buy one separate without putting the price out of sight. As for price of either, check out the thread 'is this a good buy' from a day or two ago. The bottom line is you'll see what a typical example of a $5500 vette is...at least in my limited experience.
Thnaks for the input. I drove both vettes today (vert with top down, which was great). The 90 six speed ran strong (could have loads of fun with it). Loved both cars. Now deciding which to seriously consider is the problem. Yeah I know just buy both and avoid making a decision.
jwatty, from what i'm reading it seems to me you'll be happy with the coupe in the long run. you made a point of liking the vert only with the top down. taking the targa top off the coupe admittedtly isn't the same, but its not thta far off vs. the feeling you get from the vert. your gut preference here will will most likely be an issue over time if you opted for the vert.
no doubt i'll seem quite biased, but i would jump at the '90 w/6 speed.......but the price, mileage and condition seems right. if you can get her for as close to $9k as possible, and assuming she's indeed been well cared for, imho you'd get yourself a pretty decent deal, oh and yes the manual is a helluva lot more fun to drive
i agree, the '95 is way overpriced
good luck, let us know what you decide

I have a 95 VERT , auto, so I am biased. But I like the 95 cause it has added safety features over the 90 (air bags... OK call me an old fart :-) ). Also 95 has the LT 1 300 HP engine... 95 is one of the best years for the C4. And best of all, convertibles are fun to drive, (although the storage is lacking so get the rear cargo racks if it does not already have them). I purchased my VERT one year ago, with 53000 miles for $17800 (Florida car- one owner). Your price does not sound too bad for a VERT. And the comment on the color is very true. THe white is the easiest to maintain. Black is the hardest. I have a DK red metallic, so it is similar to the black for maintenance. However, the dark colors do look great when shined up. Another thing, the 90 manual tranny is going to need clutch work sooner or later. Just another thing to go wrong and cost $$$. Either car, I am sure you will love it.
