Default 94 ODB trouble code reader

Hello all,

Has anyone bought a trouble code reader for a 94 that was reasonably priced? If so, from where and how much?

I purchased a CP 9150 actron OBD I/II reader. It reads both OBD I & II codes so it is good for pre and post 1996 autos. I have a 1995 which has OBD I codes with the OBD II connector. The 94 would have OBD I codes and connector , so along with the CP9150 you will need the 12 pin cable Cp9127 (ALDL cable type) which comes with it. I got my 9150 from autozone for around $299. It was worth it cause it reads both OBD I and II codes so can be used for newer cars too. see www.actron.com for more details.

I run WinALDL on my laptop and hook up to the OBD1 port with a cable I made... Do a google search for WinALDL and you'll find the software download and instructions on how to make the cable...

Are you sure it isn't and OBD II system with an OBD i connector? My daughters 94 Formula has the OBD I connector and OBD II ECM

I am positive. My 95 corvette has the OBD I codes but uses an OBD II 16 pin DLC connector. However, I am told that some 95 models (GM) may also use some OBD II codes too. OBD II codes officially came out for 1996 models. I researched this online to confirm the OBD I codes with 16 pin DLC connector for my 95 corvette. If I can find the web site again where I found this info, I will append it.

I would guess that a 94 would have the 12 pin ADCL connector and OBD I codes ??

It's my understanding that both 94 and 95 Vettes have the 16 pin OBDII ALDL connector, while 83's and back are 12pin OBDI.

I've heard that there are a few OBDII codes and mostly OBDI codes from the 94's and 95's.

96 and up have the 16pin connector and are OBDII systems.

I will have to look into this further. I was told by the dealer that my daughters 94 Firebird Formula had an OBDII computer in it when I thought her computer was bad. They told me that after I installed it I would have to trailer the car to them so that they could program the computer to work.
