It is also in need of some tires. This is just my daily driver and I don't feel like spending alot of $$$$ on tires this time around. Right now, I have a set of Firestone SZ50 tires on there and I have been very happy with their performance since I drive my car very easily. I am mainly looking for decent dry handling, good wet handling and a tire that will go the distance without being too noisey.
I noticed these tires are really inexpensive. Anybody have have any comments on them?
My understanding is that while some like the new Firestone Wide Ovals, it is not the same as the old SZs.
I also notice that Luke of Tirerack is a forum supporter (on the main page and has his own thread/forum). If it were me, I'd at least call him and ask his opinion. Doesn't mean you're committed to buying from him, or that his word is gospel. But they do a lot of testing of tires over there and he might point you in a direction, also depending on where you live/road and climate conditions.

I have the MX's and, while they are not treacherous in the wet, I am aware that they are not as good in the wet as the 712 and keep my speeds down accordingly.
The Yokohama AVS ES100 is another reasonably-priced tire you might want to consider. I have a set on my DD VW and am very impressed with their wet and dry capabilities.
PS. My MX's flatspot overnight, but it is very minor and even after sitting for weeks, it is gone within about 5 - 10 miles of driving. It is no big deal. Looks like it is a Kumho characteristic?
About a month ago I put Toyo Proxies on my 91 Coupe. Very aggressive tread pattern that looks like Eagles which I had before the change. I have knockoff 99 wheels with 17" in front and 18" in the rear.
Another vote for the Kumho 712s. I've had them on my 91 for ~4 months and have driven it both rain and shine. Excellent wet and dry manners and the price won't hurt you either. I would check a local store and compare price to both Tire Rack and Discount Tire. I was able to pick up a set of 4, mounted , balanced, road hazzard, lifetime rotation (I do that myself anyway), etc. for about what Tire Rack wanted just for the tires delivered. My $0.02.
