Default Nash 4+3 Shift linkage access

I've just replaced the OD unit on my '85 but now, the linkage is giving me some heartburn.

It was all operating great but when we took it down, the reverse gear was not disengaging completely. I had to force the shifter out of the reverse position and was able to get the car in a forward gear and nurse it back home but, the reverse gear kept grinding a little bit until I finally got it home.

Once I took the transmission out, I found the front OD unit input shaft seal had been moved out of place, which appeared to be the cause of the reverse gear, not disengaging completely.

I guess my question now is: since the transmission appears to be shifting okay, off the car, and now I'm having a problem with the linkage all attached, I'm thinking that when I dislodged the shifter out of reverse, I may have "jumped" something out of place, in the linkage area at the base of the shifter.

What's the best/easiest way to access this area and just go in and realign the components for proper functioning?

TIA for any input/assistance with this,
